Open applications without confusing enquiries, applications and enrolment
An admissions page should help someone decide whether to apply. Before adding a button, explain the whole journey and what each step means. Use this guide to draft and review that journey; the institution's official requirements remain the source of truth.
Introduce the programme
Say who it serves, what participants learn and what they receive on completion. If several programmes exist, show the differences before opening a form.
Clarify requirements and format
Separate mandatory requirements from recommendations. State whether participation is in person, remote or hybrid, and what that means for applicants.
Give real dates
Show opening, closing, assessment and decision dates when confirmed. If a date is pending, say so plainly instead of creating false urgency.
Name each action
An enquiry requests information; an application submits details for review; enrolment formalises a place. Button copy must match the action actually available.
Explain the response
After submission, confirm receipt and explain how and when further information will arrive. Do not present receipt as confirmed admission or enrolment.
Example to adapt
Short template: ‘[Programme] runs [in person/online]. Applications open [date] and close [date]. Review the requirements and submit your application. We will confirm receipt; admissions decisions follow separately.’ Use only verified details.
Final check
Before publishing: can someone understand the programme without opening the form? Are dates real? Does every button describe its destination? Does confirmation distinguish receipt from admission?
