Separate scheduled veterinary enquiries from urgent care online

A scheduled enquiry and an urgent need require different responses. A website can organise non-urgent enquiries, but must not present a form as immediate care or diagnose an animal.

01

Separate the routes

Show the channel the clinic actually uses for urgent cases. Verify hours and availability with the team before publishing any instruction.

02

Keep scheduled forms short

Ask for the requested service, animal type, contact details and approximate availability. Collect anything else through an appropriate channel.

03

Do not interpret symptoms

Avoid automated replies that rank severity or recommend treatment. Clinical assessment belongs to professionals and needs proper context.

04

Explain what was sent

After submission, confirm receipt and state a response channel and time the clinic can meet. A request is not an appointment.

05

Check the signposting

On mobile, confirm the urgent route remains visible before and after the form, including when a submission error occurs.

Example to adapt

Example copy for a clinic that confirms this process: ‘For a scheduled enquiry, tell us the service and your availability. We will review your request. For urgent care, call the clinic's published urgent-care number.’ Never invent that number.

Final check

Have clinical staff verify the urgent channel, opening hours and any health-related statement before using this guide.
